Mustang v 370Z SMACKDOWN: Ford Mustang GT vs. Nissan 370Z
FULL MUSTANG V 370Z COMPARO @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com When we last left the 2009 Nissan 370Z, it had just laid a drubbing on BMW’s little 135i. We then proclaimed, “The 2009 Nissan 370Z raises the standard for the sport coupe segment to a new level of affordable excellence.” Time to get more serious. It’s V8 time. Who’s in? Let’s see, no Camaro, and a Challenger is not available (don’t ask), so that leaves the freshly updated 2010 Ford Mustang GT, a car whose very existence is …

Shit, for that matter I saw an absolutely thrashed S2000 on almost slicks put up a screaming time of 52 seconds bone freakn’ stock… The point is, mustangs in this case couldn’t do what a 370z could do at = price points. There’s a saying in racing strait line = car curves = driver. In either case the 370z wins. “Inch or a mile, wins a win.” (movie quote)
It’s not a bias, I was there I saw 4 mustangs put up their best times on the board and it wasn’t even within 7 seconds of the 350z (Since most times were between 49-60 seconds around the track…thats huge) And again, lightly modified, (exhaust, tires, sway bar) was posting 53-55’s and the best the Z06 could post was a 54.something (least while we were there) Heres the biggest issue I think we are having… To me Fast = track performance/times that shows how great the car really is not drag
you guys dont know what yall talkin.
Sorry, you got me there, but I’ll leave someone else to reply to that as I don’t know much about the whole tuning thing (the most modding I ever did to my own cars was blind-spot mirrors. Just never into the whole 11-second Civic thing magazines like Importtuner write about). All I can say is, a 370Z Touring is 35 grand, so the Z does not absolutely HAVE to be 5 grand more than a Mustang, only when you want to spoil yourself with some extra gizmos.
Well, my apologies if I came across as accusing of you being a Ford salesman lol. But like you said, there are so many factors that effect results. But reading C&D, Motortrend, R&T, Edmund’s Inside Line, and Automobile, where the performance data is all on the 370z’s side, I would think that if I myself were to drive the Z and GT back to back, I’d be a little quicker in the 370z. What are the chances of every magazine testing the Mustang GT in worse conditions every time than they did the Z?
you see when i look on google I type something such as 2010 Ford Mustang GT specs and whatever pops up that looks like it has the info i need, i read it. It’s not intended to undermine the power of one car. I’m not advertising for the mustang :). And if you put it that way we might aswell break it down with where the car was tested at? Since There are many different factors that effect results?
You forgot to mention, for the $5000 price of admission, for the FRPP Super Pack, you get to eat $40,000 Nissan Z’s alive for breakfast.
Nissan Z Road Kill, 13.3s 1/4 mile
TRACK PACK, SUPER PACK, THUNDER MUSTANG, 12.66s 1/4 mile @ 108 mph into a 12 mph headwind,
with the 400 HP super pack, not the 500 or 550
Oh, regarding the Road & Track numbers, I have the April 2009 R&T Mustang GT Data Panel right in front of me. formulafun00, regarding the performance stats you posted earlier, I don’t think it’s fair to find the worst tested 370Z numbers (from R&T) and compare it to the best Mustang GT numbers (from Motortrend, an entirely different magazine).
Car & Driver:
370Z: 0-60 in 4.8s, 1/4 mile in 13.4s
* Auto 370Z 0-60 in 4.6, 1/4 mile in 13.1
Mustang: 0-60 in 5.1s, 1/4 mile in 13.7s
Motortrend:
370Z: 0-60 in 4.7s, 1/4 mile in 13.3s
Mustang: 0-60 in 4.9s, 1/4 mile in 13.5s
Road & Track:
370Z: 0-60 in 5.1s, 1/4 mile in 13.7s
Mustang: 0-60 in 5.3s, 1/4 mile in 13.8s
Driver’s race, indeed. But the consistency of test data suggests that with two equally skilled drivers, the 370Z should win more often than not.
Oh and since the Camaro has always been a fierce rival and in the same car class with the mustang Vectorsumio… What do you think of that new 13 second SS? 370z gonna beat that too? LOL,I felt the need to explain the relevance of it being refrenced here…did you see that? Otherwise im trolling. Anyways time to go work. Talk to you later since im sure youll have something else to say.
you are right but its a very minor loss…. less of a loss then having RWD. Like i said… I’d take it purely for how quickly it shifts
Sooner or later you will have to face the facts that your literally spitting out bullshit :). Your basically saying though that if someone who has been driving cars cars for a week was in the Z and an experienced racer was in the GT the Z would still win? I will end by repeating myself… ZR1 beats the GTR and i never compared the ZR-1 to a 370z mmkay? But, in that case the ZR1 would still beat the 370z of course… Have a good day.
you realize that the 350z weighs 200 lbs more then the z06 right? It is also less aerodynamic then a z06…both rear wheel drive… So tell me how a car that starts its life with 306 horsepower with the mentioned info above after being lightly modified beats a 505 horsepower vette? Your story has holes in it. Im sorry but it would take atleast 450 horsepower and drag gears to beat a c6 z06… lightly modified isnt 150 more horsepower then what the car started with. Biased much?
Lol, your pretty ignorant or you just dont like to read. I tell you that i was simply replying to what you would call “Trolls”. So according to you I’m trolling the original “trolls”? “generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion” Half this thread is off-topic. You can talk about price all you want but i originally compared the $100,000 vette to the $75,000-$85,000 GTR… I know its irrelivant to the topic of racing cars…. how could i be so stupid.
You know it works both ways. Rice burners tend to “troll” (excuse your lingo) every domestic video i see aswell. Also there is an America car in this video. Like i said its a drivers race. Your a little hard headed seeing as ive seen many posted times of the GT being a tenth of a second faster then the Z and vice versa. IT DEPENDS ON WHO IS DRIVING THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHO WINS. If the person driving the GT shifts alot better then the z driver he wins and vice versa. Able to understand that?
ok. but auto’s lose power because the torque converter isn’t as efficient. That’s why manual is faster BUT highly modded turbo cars are many times auto cuz the turbo stays spooled.
Not mad at all, I just can’t understand why there’s always some guy that needs to talk about the ZR-1 when Japanese cars are what the videos are about. Go look for yourself, almost every single honda, nissan, subaru, and mitsubishi posts are “tagged” with the trolls like you talking about how much better the $100,000 ZR-1’s are. Finally, video showed it clearly, Z is a better performing car. Same driver, even you in these cars would do better in the Z. So no, they aren’t equal cars.
Well, it’s you… Go to wikipedia if you need a definition. (what is troll) Everything you’ve typed fits the exact definition hence the calling of the name troll. Oh, and the GT-R would in fact, be relevant or at least correlated to video’s topic. ZR-1… not so much. Also, don’t presume everyone that posts is ignorant, although most are. The massive LS7 under the hood and trendy little air scoops and badges made the identification of the Z06 easy.
OMG! Excuse me for responding to what others said. I didn’t realize that this discussion is only limited to the ford mustang GT and nissan 370z and can’t speak about cars in general. Can i mention a nismo or a v6 mustang or is it limited specifically to only the models tested above too? I did basically what you are doing now. so i guess im as much of a troll as you aren’t I? I saw people mentioning a GTR and how it would smoke the stang anyways. Well the ZR1 smokes em both. Please dont be mad
You sound like your mad I tend to make sense. Lightly modified is modified.. I can call my car lightly modified with a racing chip, tires, gears, and full bolt ons… And it seems you got alittle angry before you read all my comments. I said the Z was better at cornering. Didn’t put down its performance… I even said the two racing would be a “DRIVERS RACE.” The cars are so evenly matched in performance that the better driver would win the drag race. c5 z06 = 405 hp c6 z06 = 500 hp zr1 = 630+
haha what the fuck is a troll… you see how many comments on this video? do you see when i first commented? there were over 100 different comments of the GTR the GTR has nothing to do with it either does it? My brother owns the fastest stock 350z they made and i smoke him …not only that but his stock 1996 cobra svt beats his 350z . The ZR1 isnt a z06 is it? Also the z06 was more than likely a c5 wasnt it dont lie? A z is best at drifting and thats where it should stay.
And another thing… WHY? OH GOD WHY when ever some Japanese car is posted on youtube is there some corn fed yankee always talking about the ZR-1… WTF is that all about? This video isn’t about the ZR-1 has nothing, zero, nadda to do with it. But there you are posting about it like it’s the topic of the whole video? The video doesn’t leave room for interpretation… It solves the question people want to know… Money spent on stang or Z, which is better? Answer? Video’s job done!
OMG formulafun00, Troll much? Wanted to see what people were saying about the two cars and all I see is you. I’ve went to autoX recently and saw these little Z’s (350z) destroying the stangs. We were even blessed to see the MONSTER Z06 running race comp tires and it still couldn’t beat a lightly modified 350z on equal rubber on the turn based track. This video showed exactly what happens to every stang that showed up that day… traction loss and easy break away in tight turns. (1:45)
