Nissan GT-R Making a Mass-Produced Supercar by Inside Line

www.edmunds.com Given its limited production numbers and stunning performance, you might think the 2009 Nissan GT-R would get its very own assembly line, a place where a small group of technicians work in near silence, slowly piecing together individual cars like craftsmen in a hot-rod shop.

why would you want a car doing the fun stuff for you? the gt-r does something the zr1 cant do, post fast lap times consistently and with less effort.the zr1 has more potential through corners and a huge advantage in braking but unless youre a pro youll just lose the back. an average person will be faster in the gt-r. as a driving experience the gt-r is just plain awful though. its easy, but compared to a car like a zr1, its just boring.

Also, most everybody takes “100s” of laps there with the allotted hours they are given. It costs money to rent the track, so you can’t just have all the time there and times are not good when its open to the public. Last time nissan only had it for a few hours on the weekend days they were there.

and btw, correction: there is no point in spending money on a zr1, when a gtr exists*.

“halfway through lap you will notice the car in front is completely out of sight”

    no it fuckin isnt.

and you missed the point- being that time could be shaven off/is variable on a 13 mile course; lots of things like driver skill differences, wind, etc, can affect it

because Secondly, Nissan has already reset gtrs time and its now only .3 of a second slower- on a damn 13 mi. course. That is nothing. Maybe 1 lap in a 1 mile course, it could be somethin. But NOT a 13 mi course like Ring. Period.

Yeah and take off over half a second on the ZR1 timers check out the comparison of the GTR and ZR1 Nurb times on here. Independant timer against GTR and ZR1 timer and the ZR1 loses over half a second so they still cheated. Anyway the ZR1 is a more powerfull car and it can bearly leave the GTR behind ZR1 time 7:26.4 now the Series II GTR 7:26.7 nothing in it at all and the ZR1 is supposed to be the better car?

    Love this new toy…

    Hehe… :D

it is a pretty big difference.. halfway through the lap you will already notice the car in front is completely out of sight…. if the zr1 driver shaved 10 seconds of a lap (and this isnt the one where they started using rolling starts and using the early stop point) that still means he pushed it much harder. if you think thats dedicated lap timing look at what nissan has done, they label wet patches, dust, unlike the zr1 they didnt have a headwind, and theyve literally taken 100s of laps.

  • CloudAkuma says:

obvious with racing two cars with that kind of difference?? uhh

yes it is a small difference. It took the driver of the zr1 several tries to get the time he got, and on one try shaved off a full 10 seconds.

4 seconds isn’t a big difference on a 13 mile course. Lots of things like time, drivers, weather conditions even small ones like wind or just a puddle somewhere etc. all affect a lap time on that course, which is known to be raining on one side and sunny on the other at the same time.

obviously i will never buy these cars (i really dont see a point in spending money on a gt-r) but 4 seconds is no small difference!!! the cars are averaging over 100 mph. imagine a car going over 100 for 4 seconds. thats a pretty big distance, its quite obvious if you race two cars with that kind of difference even on the nurburgring its easy to notice the car is pulling away…

Seriously dude. The last page of the service manual has has SEVEN spaces to record the serial numbers of routine transaxle replacements… at $20,000+ labor a pop!

I’ve seen pictures of gearboxes that were opened with 3k miles that looked like other boxes with 20 times the miles.

  • Towelman20 says:

I am blown away by how nissan engineer’s the gt-r.

  • thettruest says:

    you’re a fuckin idiot.

  • thettruest says:

zr1 only beat GTR @ nurburgring by a couple seconds. That’s a 13 mile course.

Plus, the zr1 only has 2 seats and the GTR has 4 seats + a big trunk. And also, the zr1 wouldn’t even move in snow, meanwhile the GTR tears that up.

Anyone who thinks 4 seconds on a 13 mile course is the end all be all is someone who will never buy these cars.

  • rctsos says:

why Japanese always offer good things :)

  • gmax876 says:

dude, he’s right, I used to love the car, but think about, they sell the car with a self destruct button! if I pay 100 grand for a car it better be supported by the company, if it breaks itself.

  • japangator says:

Is that all you think about is voided warranties?

  • yazzam says:

god i love that car. nissan in genius

  • beast447 says:

this car sucks if you use the launch control you void the warrenty and have to pay 20,000$ to get it fixed if it brakes and the first few have already done that.

  • mstt1010 says:

    Go Japanese…..

  • eworque says:

hey kids.. learn engineering.. u’ll which is better

  • bitannoyingreally says:

The R35’s real performance is in the AWD systems, putting engine/gearbox torque to the ground.

AWD and high gear ratios make it possible to compete with RWD American torque monsters.

  • ortiz84tx says:

Wow, so a V6 Skyline with 480 Hp has the same 0-60 as a V8 683 HP LS9 Corvette… bad ass right? Just admit it, the GTR is a better built machine, and if given the equal number of HP, it would beat the ZR1…lol I can see you do respect the car though…What other V6s are in this discussion? lol

  • GMminivans9968 says:

    The ZR1 is 3.2.

  • ortiz84tx says:

Yeah, the GTR is 3.2! The ZR1 is 3.4…lol

  • GMminivans9968 says:

    It’s 3.2, not 3.4.

  • ortiz84tx says:

Serdomthwart and tselegala, lol the corvette has good handling, that’s why it beat the GTR in the Nürburgring, but like i said, it also has an extra $30,000 onto the price tag and an extra 140 hp under the hood. They are two totally different classes. Put the GTR in the same HP class and it’s a different story. Matter of fact, it’s amazing that the GTR is almost at the same level of the ZR1 considering it has less HP and a smaller price tag. The GTR is an AMAZING machine!
